We are packing up and getting ready for an extremely early flight to Cancun, via LAX. Why are we heading to the Yucatan? Those who know me already know that I will seize any almost any opportunity to travel. The impetus this time was credit on Southwest Airlines that were set to expire on June 1. It was quite a bit of money to relinquish, so I searched where that money could take us without more than one connection. The best option was Cancun, so I started making plans.
I visited Cancun with my parents about 25 years ago, so I know that the beaches on the coast are spectacular. But we wanted something a little less developed, so I honed in on Akumal, a beach town famous for the turtles who live in the sea year-round. We are looking forward to snorkeling, cooling off in cenotes (large openings in the limestone fed by underground fresh water tables), visiting Mayan ruins and colonial towns, and going on a whale shark tour.
So, I'll keep you posted!
